Nutmeg is a well known spice used in kitchens around the world; highly valued for its nutty, spicy and slightly sweet taste. As well, Nutmeg has also been highly praised for its effectiveness in aromatherapy and as a natural healer. In ancient times the Egyptians used Nutmeg for embalming, Romans used it as an incense while Italians used it to combat the plague.

Nutmeg essential oil is extracted by steam or water distillation from the worm eaten nutmeg seeds from the Myristica fragrans plant. Worm eaten seeds are used because the worms eat the unneeded starch and fat content.
