Cinnamon is probably one of the worlds most recognizable and beloved aromas. Cinnamon has been used and valued for centuries and has been mentioned in literature dating back to 2700 BC. Although early Europeans used cinnamon to treat digestive ailments, coughs, and colds they considered it a rare and precious spice.

Cinnamon essential oil is extracted by steam distillation from both the leaves and the dried inner bark of the twigs from the plant Cinnamomum zeylanicum.

Cinnamon essential oil has many therapeutic uses including:

1. Bronchitis

2. Flu, colds, chills

3. Arthritis, rheumatism

4. Intestinal infections, diarrhea, digestive issues

5. Libido

6. Poor circulation

7. Menstrual pain

8. Nervous exhaustion, stress related conditions

There are two suggested applications for using cinnamon essential oil:

1. Use two to five drops of essential oil in a diffuser, humidifier, or vaporizer.

2. Make a massage oil by adding three to four drops of cinnamon essential oil to one ounce of your favorite carrier oil.

**Cinnamon essential oil should never be used neat on skin or in bath water.

Cinnamon essential oil mixes well with all citrus and spicy oils. Use it on its own or in combination to create a warm, comforting and inviting atmosphere in your home during get-togethers, or parties. As well using a couple of drops in a diffuser is a good tactic to use to create a homey and appealing environment during an open house or showing if you are trying to sell your home.
