Using Hyssop Essential Oil

Although greatly debated, many individuals may recognize the herb for it is mentioned several times in the Bible; it is believed to have been used by many biblical figures including Jesus and Moses. One fact that can not be argued is this herb has been used around the world for centuries to cure and cleanse.
Slightly sweet, fresh and earthy have all been used to describe the aroma of Hyssop essential oil which is collected by steam distillation from the leaves and flowers as the Hyssopus officinalis plant. This herbaceous plant is native to the Mediterranean and parts of central Asia however it is now widely cultivated around the world.
There are many therapeutic uses and applications for Hyssop essential oil including:
1. For centuries dating back to the Ancient Greeks Hyssop has been used for respiratory issues. If you suffer from bronchitis, a cough or excess phlegm use two or three drops in a diffuser or place the same amount on a small cloth or cotton ball and periodically inhale. Another useful application is to make a massage oil to rub into your chest area by adding two or three drops of Hyssop essential oil to one ounce of your favorite carrier oil.
2. Hyssop essential oil is a great antiseptic and anti-inflammatory therefore to help heal and clean cuts and wounds simply dilute with a little water and dab onto affected area.
3. Use several (approximately three to five) drops of Hyssop essential oil in a steam inhalation to help combat sore throats, tonsillitis, and whooping cough.
4. If you are experiencing problems with your digestive system, suffering from bloating or have a poor appetite try massaging your abdominal area with a mixture containing two to three drops of Hyssop essential oil and one ounce of your favorite carrier oil. This mixture can also be massaged into your lower abdominal and/or lower back areas to combat bloating and water retention caused by menstruation. Additionally you can also use approximately eight to ten drops in your bath water just remember to add it and mix it in after you have finished running the water.
5. The above application can also be used on your entire body to help increase general circulation or it can be applied to specific areas for instance on bruises or areas affected with swelling. For low blood pressure try adding several drops to your diffuser on a regular basis.
6. Hyssop essential oil is very effective as a stress reliever and mood stabilizer, therefore it can be used to relieve anxiety, mental fatigue, or nervous tension by the same token it can be used to increase mental clarity, concentration, and creativity. For this reason many individuals find Hyssop essential oil very useful when meditating. If you are looking for assistance with any of these issues simply use two or three drops in your diffuser.
Hyssop essential oil can be safely used however certain precautions should be noted. This essential oil does contain pinocamphone which can be toxic if taken in high dosages therefore ensure you are following the dosage recommendations of your product. Hyssop should be completely avoided by children, women who are pregnant and individuals who have epilepsy or high blood pressure (hypertension).
